How to Care for Solid Wood Furniture

From seasonal oiling to humidity control, a few simple habits will keep your handcrafted pieces looking stunning for decades. Solid wood is a living material — it expands and contracts with the seasons — so caring for it is mostly about working with those movements rather than against them.

Start with the basics: wipe spills promptly, use coasters and trivets, and keep pieces out of direct sunlight and away from heating vents, which can dry the wood unevenly. A stable indoor humidity range does more to protect a table than any single product you can buy.

For oiled or waxed finishes, a light refresh once or twice a year restores depth and protection. Always check the maker's guidance first, since the right product depends on the original finish. Done consistently, this routine takes minutes and keeps a piece looking its best for a very long time.
